NOTE: The re-projection of many of the images has resulted in these images having triangles around the outside. To display these images as tiles, set the colour black - 0,0,0 (RGB) - to transparent.
This folder contains a set of shapefiles which represent the grid squares from the VCSD.
Shapefiles are a format used for data that comes with ArcView. They are a simple, non-topological format for storing the geometric location and attribute information of geographic features.
The following grid shapefiles are provided:
· town_grids_<projection name> - grid squares for the 1:25K town maps
· 100k_grids_<projection name> - grid squares for the 1:100K cyan edged maps
· 250k_grids_<projection name> - grid squares for the 1:250K green edged maps
· all_grids_<projection name> - combined grid squares for the 1:25K, 1:100K and 1:250K maps
The attribute table for each shapefile contains the same map reference fields as the indexes, including the map_town field. This allows you to search for a particular feature in the index, then locate and zoom to its grid reference in the shapefile. If you are using the grids to locate a particular feature in one of the indexes, you should use the all_grids_<projection name> shapefile, as it contains all the grid squares with a unique map_town reference for each.
This folder contains all of the VicRoads Electronic Map Images.
The raster images are all in 256 colour TIF format and tiled where necessary to maintain the number of pixels to less than 4200 x 3000.
Images are accompanied by ESRI Worldfiles. For pseudo-AMG images, image catalogs have been created. The image catalogs can be loaded in ArcView, and allow you to view all tiled images as one theme, rather than loading each individual image as a theme in a view. There is a catalog for each of the 6 scales.
The images are divided up into the following sub-directories, depending on their scale.
· 10_Million (1:10,000,000 images)
· 2_Million (1:2,000,000 images)
· 1_Million (1:1,000,000 images)
· 250k (1:250,000 images – green edged maps in VCSD)
· 100k (1:100,000 images – cyan edged maps in VCSD)
· 25k (1:25,000 images – township maps in VCSD)

Greyscale images are provided only for the pseudo-AMG images. These images use 256 shades of grey rather than full colour, and are useful to use as a backdrop when displaying coloured vectors. The greyscale images are stored in the Greyscale folder under the Pseudo_AMG\Images\ sub-directories.
An ArcView 3.3 project (.apr) is included for pseudo-AMG colour and greyscale images.
This folder contains Mapinfo TABs for the images in the Lat/Long projection. Please refer to the Using VicRoads Images in Mapinfo.htm document for further information.
This folder contains a set of shapefiles which represent the outlines of each tiled image.
Tiles are provided for the 1:1 Million, 1:250K, 1:100K and 1:25k image scales.
The attribute information for each shapefile includes the name of the tiled image which each outline relates to.
The image below shows the relationship between the 1:250,000 tiles and the green edged maps in the VCSD.

This folder contains various additional electronic map images. Unlike the other electronic map images, these sundry images are not geo-referenced (ie. they do not sit in the correct geographic location in space).
The sundry images include:
This folder contains images of interstate country town maps shown in the red section of the VCSD. These images are not geo-referenced.
This folder contains images of the freeway interchange diagrams shown in the VCSD. These images are not geo-referenced.
This folder contains miscellaneous images from the VCSD which were not geo-referenced. These other maps include:
· Travel Time Map
· Distance Guide
· Melbourne City and Docklands Maps
· Access & Bypass and Through Routes Maps
· sundry tiles covering parts of the ocean off Victoria's coast.
This folder also contains a HTML file containing a chart of distances between major towns in Victoria.
There is a close relationship between the information in these images and the information contained in the VCSD Edition 5, although the images may contain updated information not included in Edition 5.
